Who wins the 2022 EGTC award of the Committee of the Regions?

The 2022 EGTC prize "Building Europe across borders" of the European Committee of the Regions was awarded on November 24th, 2022 during the EGTC Platform in Liberec to an Italian-Slovenian EGTC: the "EGTC GO".

The "ITI Salute-Zdravstvo" project led by this EGTC and financed by the Interreg Italy-Slovenia programme, was highlighted at the event for its results obtained in the field of health cooperation: modernisation of health and social establishments on both sides of the border, integration of competences with the training of cross-border health teams.

The EGTC GO was founded in 2011 between the three municipalities of Gorizia, Nova Gorica and Šempeter-Vrtojba. They are now considered as one "conurbation" and act together, thanks to the EGTC, in many areas of cooperation (health, culture and education, energy, urban planning, sports, transport). The EGTC, which thus serves as an instrument of governance for the whole territory, is very active in the field of local economy, rationalisation of resources, improvement of local services for the inhabitants of the three municipalities, and actions promoting the development of European citizenship. Recently, it supported a project for a "Isonzo-Soca cross-border park" linking the Italian city of Gorizia to its Slovenian neighbours.
