The Catalan Cross-Border Area co-builds its future with its citizens

As the new "functional area" of the Spain-France-Andorra Interreg programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027), the Catalan Cross-Border Area will soon be funding cooperation projects worth over €4 million.

The MOT is currently involved in these projects, in partnership with the University of Girona and the consultancy firm Res publica. The mission: to support the Pyrénées-Orientales department, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Diputació de Girona in drawing up a new cross-border strategy based on three pillars:

  • 1. The updating of the White Paper on the Catalan Cross-Border Area, a veritable atlas of territorial developments and cooperation across the Catalan border, 15 years after its publication.
  • 2. A wide-ranging public consultation on the expectations of inhabitants to improve quality of life, address the climate crisis and strengthen exchanges within the cross-border living area.
  • 3. Proposing a series of recommendations and strategic guidelines for the coming years.

The gamble on public participation has already proved to be a victory, since by mid-September the number of responses to the online survey had passed the 1,000 mark and the call for ideas had attracted more than 370 contributions!
Between now and the end of the year, the new "atlas" of the Catalan Cross-Border Area will be published.
