France-Germany: a working group to take account of the "border reality" in national legislative procedures

On March 11th 2024 a meeting was held in Kehl, Germany, to launch the Franco-German working group responsible for developing and coordinating mechanisms to take account of the "border reality" in national legislative procedures.

The working group is co-chaired by Jean Peyrony, Director General of the MOT, and Nikolaus Marsch, Professor at Saarland University. This mission is part of the implementation of article 14 of the 2019 Treaty of Aachen, which includes among the tasks of the Franco-German cross-border cooperation committee (CCT) that of "analysing the impact of new legislation on border territories".

It is therefore on the mandate of the CCT that the working group, made up of high-level political and technical officials from the two national systems and specialists in cross-border cooperation, including the MOT, will work to develop common Franco-German methods for analyzing the cross-border impact of draft domestic legislation. The aim is to prevent conflicts of standards and, where necessary, to introduce appropriate provisions for border regions.
