Consorcio Bidasoa-Txingudi

Countries: Spain , France
Regions concerned: Nouvelle Aquitaine (France); Gipuzkoa (Spain)

The Txingudi basin is situated on the municipalities of Hondarribia, Irun (in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country) and Hendaye (in the “Pyrénées-Atlantiques” department). Sharing a common culture (the Basque culture), the municipalities decided to form a joint body and created the “Consorcio Bidasoa-Txingudi”. The population of the area now stands at 96,635 inhabitants, including 17,201 in France.

The Consorcio complements, at the local level, the cooperation led within the Bayonne-San Sebastián Basque Eurocity (incorporated as an EEIG).

Its role is to coordinate administrative and institutional structures in order to strengthen cross-border cooperation within the Basin. Its actions mainly focus on tourism, culture, and economic and social development.
