Sambre Avesnois territory: Cooperation taking shape!

On July 6th, the MOT led the final steering committee of the study conducted with its member, the Maubeuge Val de Sambre conurbation, on a strategy for the cross-border Sambre Avesnois.

This mission ended at the town hall of Maubeuge with the validation of a cross-border roadmap and a mode of governance designed to continue the cooperation already undertaken with the Belgian parties, in particular the conurbations of Mons and Charleroi.

The meeting provided an opportunity to present an action plan covering health, services to the population, mobility, employment and training, tourism and culture, energy and the environment, i.e. a set of some twenty projects.

The French and Belgian elected representatives are committed to organised cooperation, through a flexible structure in the form of a cross-border assembly supported by thematic groups bringing together elected representatives and technical staff, all within the framework of an agreement due to be signed by the end of the year.

This final steering committee meeting brings to a close a year's worth of support, which followed the completion of a cross-border diagnosis conducted in 2021-2022 by the MOT and presented on the 1st of July 2022 at the cultural site of the gare numérique de Jeumont.
