Dunkirk and Ostend strengthen their cross-border cooperation
On 27 January, technical staff from the Dunkirk Urban Community and the City of Ostend met in Dunkirk to discuss shared metropolitan, port and maritime challenges. The MOT took part in the meeting to present two studies it had carried out in the region and to facilitate part of the discussions. Against a complex environmental, economic and geopolitical backdrop, this initial exchange highlighted the need to cooperate in order to tackle these challenges with a shared vision, focusing on:
Three main areas
- Adapting the territory – Strengthening regional resilience in the face of transitions and risks
- Caring for and strengthening the commons – Developing a cross-border framework for the management of common goods and shared resources, both human and natural
- Shaping a shared iconic landscape for the 21st and 22nd centuries – Building a shared long-term spatial and strategic vision
Ostend’s involvement in the West-Vlaanderen / Flandre-Dunkerque-Côte d’Opale EGTC opens up new opportunities for cooperation. Severalinitiatives relating to mobility, economic development, training and culture will be explored firther with elected representatives throughout 2026.
