Cross-border challenges between Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the Swiss Lake Geneva region

The CESER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes has published a report on cross-border challenges between the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and the Swiss Lake Geneva region, describing them as a ‘a key regional issue with impacts on employment, housing and mobility’. The MOT was consulted in this context.

The report makes a number of observations:

  • 150,000 daily crossings at the Geneva border
  • Switzerland’s attractiveness, which is widening wage gaps and exacerbating social tensions
  • Pressure on land and saturated infrastructure
  • Challenges in training and retaining skills, particularly in the health sector

It also makes recommendations for action:

  • Clear French governance and a common voice
  • A shared database for a long-term vision
  • Pragmatic and experimental solutions
  • Better distribution of resources for social cohesion
