Cross-border energy communities: discover the seven pilot projects that have been selected
The European Cross-border Energy Communities (CBEC) project, coordinated by the two associations on behalf of DG REGIO, supports the development of energy communities involving stakeholders and resources located on either side of an EU border.
Following the closure of the call for proposals in November 2025, the MOT and the AEBR selected seven pilot projects. The pilot projects will now have twelve months to develop their cross-border (CBEC) or quasi-cross-border (Q-CBEC) energy communities. They will receive financial support of €15,000 and technical support provided by experts from REScoop.eu, the European Federation of Energy Communities.

Project timeline
The projects will officially begin in early March with a preliminary interview conducted by REScoop.eu with each pilot to assess the community and its needs, carry out a socio-dynamic mapping of stakeholders, and define the objectives of the tailored support.
The projects will subsequently benefit from technical workshops with REScoop.eu and its national experts, as well as group training webinars, to establish a roadmap for the development of their energy community.
Progress on the selected pilot initiatives will be shared throughout the project period on the CBEC website.
