41% of healthcare workers in Haute-Savoie (France) work in Switzerland

The Greater Geneva cross-border statistical observatory has published a study highlighting the attraction of Switzerland for healthcare personnel and its consequences in terms of human resources for neighbouring French hospitals.

According to the Observatory, healthcare workers represent 10% of the total number of cross-border workers:
"Around 41,000 healthcare workers reside in the Franco-Vaud-Geneva territory, made up of the Ain and Haute-Savoie for the French part, and the cantons of Geneva and Vaud for the Swiss part. Of the 25,000 workers in Ain and Haute-Savoie, 7,200 work in Switzerland, in particular in the cantons of Geneva (5,900) and Vaud (1,100). These significant flows reflect a strong imbalance between place of residence and place of work".
