Wallonia, Flanders and France are joining forces to preserve the cross-border islands on the River Lys

In June 2026, the partners of the Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai Eurometropolis signed a declaration of intent to better manage and preserve the cross-border oxbow lakes and former meanders of the River Lys. This initiative brings together stakeholders from Wallonia, Flanders and France to engage in a joint discussion on the future of these shared natural areas. It is also based on the views expressed by citizens as part of a cross-border consultation. A report by notélé looks back at this new phase of cooperation between the regions bordering the River Lys.
