A-MONT: A shared strategy and a cross-border agreement for the Northern Alps

Launched in 2024, this work was carried out in several stages. The strategy was developed on the basis of a workshop held in Albertville in June 2025 (more info here), bringing together elected representatives and technical staff from the three territories, as well as a series of online thematic workshops held in February 2026. These collaborative exchanges were complemented by analytical work carried out with the Agence Alpine des Territoires (AGATE) and the Politecnico di Torino (DIST).

These contributions helped shape the strategy by identifying priorities and actions structured around four key areas:

• enhancing the attractiveness of the territory and improving territorial well-being;
• improving the accessibility of the territory;
• strengthening the resilience of the territory and its activities in the face of climate change;
• building a shared cross-border territory by reinforcing cross-border exchanges and governance.

This final priority is accompanied by a proposed implementation framework involving the three territories in a structured and long-term cooperation process.

This ambition has been reinforced by the signing of a Declaration of Intent in 2025 and by the preparation of a cross-border agreement within the framework of the project, to which the MOT also contributed. The agreement will be signed during the Fête des Alpes in Pontechianale (Italy) at the end of July 2026.

The strategy and the agreement, both approved by the Savoie Departmental Council last month, represent concrete progress towards implementing measures that support the objectives of the cross-border strategy. In particular, they provide for the establishment of thematic working groups and strengthened coordination to define shared priority actions across the three territories.
