A European Parliament study to facilitate access to cross-border healthcare

A new study commissioned by the European Parliament sets out eight proposals to remove barriers to cross-border healthcare and modernise the 2011 directive. For residents of cross-border catchment areas, this report advocates major advances: the abolition of upfront payment to prevent people from foregoing treatment, easier access to cross-border clinical trials, and the reimbursement of telemedicine across national borders. As digitalisation progresses through the European health data exchange network (MyHealth@EU), MEPs emphasise the need for better coordination to streamline local healthcare pathways in border regions.
