The first Régiolis cross-border train between France and Germany

The rolling stock to be deployed on cross-border services under the cooperation protocol between the Grand Est Region and the Länder consists of a fleet of 30 trains, for which a cross-border France-Germany version has been developed: Régiolis TFA. These trains will run on the French network from October 2024, and on the German network from summer 2025, once they have been approved.  

From summer 2025, the new trainsets will replace those currently operating on the Strasbourg-Offenbourg and Mulhouse-Müllheim lines to and from Baden-Württemberg. At the same time, the Grand Est Region and the Land of Baden-Württemberg are working on setting up interfaces for the automated exchange of timetable data. As a result, citizens will be able to consult connections in the neighboring region via their respective local applications. 

Thanks to an investment of 388 million euros, 30 new trains will be put into service between October 2024 and mid-2025. They will run in the West on the lines linking Metz to Trier, Metz to Saarbrücken and Strasbourg to Saarbrücken, and in the East to connect the Alsatian, Palatinate and Baden banks of the Rhine, notably Strasbourg and Karlsruhe, as well as the Mulhouse-Fribourg and Strasbourg-Offenburg lines.
