Resilient Borders: discover the 19 pilot sites and their objectives

The European Resilient Borders initiative, coordinated by the MOT and the AEBR with the support of DG REGIO, has been supporting 19 pilot sites in border regions since February 2025. The aim is to draw up concrete action plans for spatial planning and coordinated crisis management. Just two months after their launch, the first actions are taking shape on the ground. The MOT is supporting the ten pilot sites in the ‘spatial planning’ strand, whilst the AEBR is supporting the sites in the ‘crisis management’ strand. March provided an opportunity for the MOT team to discuss initial progress with all the pilot sites in the spatial planning strand and to address their concerns.

Among the initial successes:

a meeting between Hungarian and Slovak mayors from the Bratislava metropolitan area and Györ-Moson-Sopron County, working together on a project for the first time,
the organisation of several workshops by the Polish-Lithuanian Functional Area EGTC with Local Action Groups (LAGs), enabling them to meet local stakeholders and experiment with the Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) approach,
a meeting of the Eurocité du Guadiana’s Intermunicipal Group on Urban Planning and Spatial Development to analyse the spatial development plans of the three cities involved in the project.

A description of all the selected projects has just been published on the project website. Each pilot action is detailed, including its objectives and the activities planned throughout the period. The publications are accompanied by small vignettes produced by the MOT illustrating the diversity of the territories (towns, cities, regions), as well as maps of the two lots.

Finally, the 35th Interreg Annual Event, held in Gorizia (Italy) on 27 and 28 March 2025, provided an opportunity to showcase the selected projects via an exhibition stand.
