MEPs call on Member States to reach an agreement on the new mechanism for removing cross-border barriers
February 2024
MEPs reiterated their commitment to launching interinstitutional negotiations with EU governments on the Commission’s new proposal, which is based on Parliament’s September 2023 resolution on the new mechanism for removing cross-border legal and administrative barriers and promoting cooperation. They would like to reach an agreement on the proposal before the European elections in June 2024.
The European Parliament’s rapporteur, Sandro Gozi (Renew, FR), emphasised that the new mechanism should not only remove barriers, but also bring financial benefits to cross-border regions and the EU economy by saving €457 billion and safeguarding 4 million jobs each year.
