Housing markets under pressure: an even greater challenge in border regions
March 2026
The latest issue of the "Cahier de l'Observatoire des Territoires: Territoires et transitions : enjeux du logement" (Territories and Transitions: Housing Challenges), published by the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (ANCT) in partnership with the French Directorate-General for Planning, Housing and the Environment, highlights the structural imbalances affecting housing markets in France.
An analysis of the property markets in border regions
Within axis 3, which focuses on housing markets and costs, a specific analysis by Jean Rubió of the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT) highlights a reality that remains under-documented at national level: the growing pressure on property markets in border regions (pp. 68–69).
This housing issue is included in the MOT’s work programme for 2026 and will be the subject of a specific project, reserved for the network, building on the work of the working group on “Pressure on the labour market in cross-border regions”, whose final manifesto will be published shortly.
