France-Germany: a working group to take account of the ‘border reality’ in national legislative procedures

This working group is co-chaired by Jean Peyrony, Managing Director of the MOT, and Nikolaus Marsch, Professor at Saarland University. This task forms part of the implementation of Article 14 of the 2019 Aachen Treaty, which stipulates that one of the tasks of the Franco-German Cross-Border Cooperation Committee (CCT) is to “analyse the impact of new legislation on border regions”.
It is therefore on the CCT’s mandate that the working group, comprising high-level political and technical officials from both national systems and specialists in cross-border cooperation, including the MOT, will work to develop common Franco-German methods for analysing the cross-border impact of draft domestic legislation. The aim is to prevent conflicts of standards and, where necessary, to provide for appropriate provisions for border regions.
