3rd Borders Forum “What if we dared to make a Cross-border deal?”
On 2 and 3 December, more than 300 participants gathered at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris for the third edition of the Borders Forum, organised by the MOT.
Together with Gabrielle Halpern, philosopher and specialist in the concept of hybridity, whose work explores the intellectual, social, and political boundaries that shape our societies, the first two roundtable discussions provided an opportunity to engage with high-level speakers on the following questions: How can we restore trust in order to strengthen European and cross-border citizenship and move towards a “cross-border people” by 2050? What kind of sovereignty should be shared across borders? What forms of solidarity can be fostered between cross-border territories, and how can we rethink public policies?
A "Cross-Border Deal" for Better Integration of Cross-Border Living Areas into Public Policies
On 3 December, participants split into ten thematic workshops to discuss concrete proposals. The objective was to present national and European decision-makers with a “Cross-Border Deal” aimed at better integrating cross-border living areas into public policies, overcoming the barriers at borders that affect the daily lives of nearly 30% of the European population, and restoring trust in Europe.
The outcomes of these discussions were presented during the closing session to representatives of national and European institutions.
