Cross-border TER trains in the Grand Est region can finally cross the border
February 2026
After several months of waiting, the 30 new cross-border Régiolis trains in the Grand Est region have finally received German certification and can now operate across the border. Designed to facilitate Franco-German connections – such as Metz-Saarbrücken, Strasbourg-Saarbrücken and Mulhouse-Müllheim – these trains have had to adapt their emergency braking systems to meet new German standards. The trains, bearing the French and German flags, will gradually replace the old trains, with entry into service scheduled for this spring.
