A look back at the final webinar of the MORO project: “How can we drive forward the development of border regions?”

The event highlighted the challenges associated with the integrated development of border areas, due to differences in planning tools and administrative structures on either side of the border. The Franco-German ‘MORO’ project, which was presented, implemented an innovative method of ‘consultation-action’ and simulation games at two pilot sites: the Saar-Moselle Eurodistrict and the Upper Rhine region.
The webinar addressed the realities and needs in other border regions through three round-table discussions: ‘Observation and data for a shared understanding of the territory’; ‘Governance in support of joint roadmaps and strategies for border regions’, and ‘Coordination of spatial planning in cross-border areas to promote territorial cohesion’.
Speakers included representatives from the Directorate-General for Spatial Planning, Housing and Nature at the Ministry for Ecological Transition, the ANCT, the BBSR (Germany), the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg), the SGAR Hauts-de-France, the INSEE Cross-Border Statistics Unit, the Grand Est Region, the Rhein-Neckar Region (Germany), the urban planning agencies ADEUS, AGURAM and AUA, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, the SaarMoselle Eurodistrict (France–Germany) and the GLCT Grand Genève (France–Switzerland).
