A new MOT study on energy planning

On 3 February 2025, the study ‘Energy planning at the cross-border catchment area level’, proposed in the MOT's 2025 work programme and supported by the Strasbourg Eurometropole, the Strasbourg-Ortenau Eurodistrict and the Banque des territoires, was launched.

The online launch meeting brought together around twenty local players to discuss the issues and objectives of the study. With a view to the European Energy Transition Conference to be held in Strasbourg between 24 and 26 June 2025, the aim of this partnership project is to change the way we look at energy planning, in order to understand to what extent it can be considered on a cross-border scale.

  • How does energy planning work on either side of the border in the Strasbourg-Ortenau cross-border catchment area?
  • What are the issues and objectives of the energy transition on either side of the border, and on a cross-border basis?
  • What are the opportunities for enhanced cross-border cooperation on the scale of the cross-border energy catchment area?

These are all questions to which the work of the MOT will attempt to provide elements of understanding and solutions.

Next steps: the MOT is continuing its analysis and discussions with local players, and will organise a cross-border working session on these subjects in the second phase of the study, before presenting the main elements at the Assises in June.
