Introduction
In border areas, where exchanges are daily and interdependencies are strong, promoting cross-border education and training is of strategic importance. It facilitates the flow of knowledge, people, and ideas, while contributing to the social, economic, and cultural integration of these territories. Learning neighboring languages, joint educational projects, and transnational training programs play a crucial role in concretely anchoring the European project in these regions.
The European Union places education and lifelong learning at the heart of its priorities, as drivers of employment, innovation, and citizen mobility. The “Strategic Framework for European Cooperation in Education and Training” (2021-2030) aims to “make lifelong learning and mobility a reality for all.”
To achieve these goals, European institutions support national reforms, encourage the modernization of higher education, and develop common tools such as Europass, which promote the recognition of qualifications, skills transparency, and mobility between Member States.
The Erasmus+ program, the emblem of this policy, is one of the greatest successes of European integration. It has allowed millions of young people, teachers, and trainers to undertake study, training, or internship stays in other countries. Beyond the acquisition of language and professional skills, these mobility opportunities foster a sense of belonging to a European community and strengthen intercultural understanding, two pillars of European citizenship.
