A look back at the European Energy Transition Conference in Strasbourg!

From 24 to 26 June, the European Energy Transition Conference (AETE) was held in Strasbourg, a region renowned for its commitment to energy transition and European integration. The AETE 2025 therefore naturally focused on cross-border cooperation. The MOT was present to highlight the energy challenges of cross-border cooperation at the French and European borders.

On 24 June, MOT Director General Jean Peyrony took part in the round table discussion entitled ‘Developing energy cooperation across borders’ alongside Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg, among others. The following day, the MOT had a stand in the European and cross-border area of the conference, providing an opportunity to talk to many participants about its cross-border energy cooperation initiatives. These included a study on energy planning for the Strasbourg-Ortenau cross-border area and a call for projects on cross-border energy communities, conducted on behalf of the European Commission.

The MOT also hosted a workshop entitled ‘The Franco-German Strasbourg-Ortenau catchment area: towards a cross-border pilot region for energy transition?’. Discussions were illustrated by presentations of best practices, while keeping the debate firmly rooted in the local context of the Strasbourg-Ortenau Eurodistrict and highlighting concrete opportunities for energy cooperation. A Franco-German duo, composed of Emeline Lafaury (Eurométropole de Strasbourg) and Lioba Markl-Hummel (Ortenauer Energie Agentur), provided valuable insight into the respective approaches to energy planning on either side of the border, emphasising the strategic interest for these neighbouring territories to collaborate in favour of a common energy transition.
