A look back at the MOT’s first 2025 General Meeting
January 2025
With the participation of Haut-Rhin MP and former minister Brigitte Klinkert, and Sandro Gozi MEP, the MOT held its first General Assembly of the year by videoconference on Thursday January 30th. Its president, Christian Dupessey, mayor of Annemasse and president of the Pôle métropolitain du Genevois français, was joined by more than 60 participants who are members of the network.
On the agenda:
- Programme of forthcoming MOT activities, discussions with members on their projects and priorities, budget, and votes
- Focus on the flash mission entrusted to Brigitte Klinkert by the French National Assembly on ‘cross-border issues for metropolitan French citizens’
Brigitte Klinkert explained the purpose of her mission: ‘The aim is to take stock of the issues in France over the next two months, in order to identify those that can be resolved quickly. There are many areas: health, mobility and infrastructure funding, employment and professional integration, housing in areas under pressure, support for border workers, police cooperation, education and culture, etc. 20 million French people and 450,000 cross-border workers are concerned. Despite this, our territories are not sufficiently heard! I can already announce that the need for a ‘single entry point’ at government level is a recommendation that has come up from all the people we have already heard from. - Focus on the new BRIDGEforEU regulation, designed to remove obstacles in border areas, with a speech by Sandro Gozi MEP, vice-president of the MOT and rapporteur for the regulation
‘With this new regulation, we are introducing a “one-stop shop” for each obstacle identified. For each one, a response will be provided using procedures that are smoother, more efficient and will take less time. This one-stop shop will be set up at national level, but there may also be one at each border’. The law was definitively adopted by Parliament. The process should be completed in May.
