PRISMA: towards a cross-border approach to economic activity zones in the SaarMoselle agglomeration

Since its launch in January 2024, the MOT has been supporting the SaarMoselle EGTC in the implementation of the Interreg PRISMA project. This project aims to develop a cross-border SaarMoselle agglomeration project as set out in the Eurodistrict's 2027 territorial strategy.

Seminar in Saarbrücken

In order to lay the foundations for cross-border synchronisation of territorial development, the project focuses on analysing data and practices relating to spatial planning on both sides of the border. It was in this context that the MOT took part in a seminar on the development of economic activity zones (ZAEs) in a cross-border context. Organised by the SaarMoselle EGTC, the seminar was held on 11 December in Saarbrücken and attended by stakeholders from the cross-border area.

The seminar began with a presentation of the progress made by the PRISMA working groups. These presentations were followed by participatory workshops during which the various stakeholders were able to develop their thoughts on the development of cross-border economic activity zones. In the absence of formal consultation mechanisms, the groups emphasised the need to strengthen informal exchanges between stakeholders in the area on the development of ZAE.

Next steps for the project in 2026

Following an initial seminar on planning tools held last May, the December seminar on ZAE will be complemented in 2026 by two new thematic meetings on mobility and the environment.
