BRIDGEforEU - European tool for resolving cross-border obstacles

The adoption by the European Parliament and the signing of the final act of the “BRIDGEforEU” regulation on May 7, 2025, marks the birth of a new instrument designed to facilitate the identification and resolution of cross-border obstacles at every internal EU border.
Representing a major step forward for Europe’s border regions, the mechanism it establishes aims to overcome bureaucratic and physical barriers in European border areas shared between Member States, with a key principle: the decision to remove or not remove an obstacle ultimately falls under the prerogatives of the competent national authorities. At the heart of the process for resolving obstacles to cross-border cooperation are the future “coordination points” that each State should set up at the national and/or local and regional level, and, where applicable, in consultation with its neighbors, in a shared manner across one or more borders.
The regulation was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on May 19, 2025. Actively supported in Parliament by Deputy Sandro Gozi, Vice-President of the MOT, it marks the culmination of more than ten years of work by the MOT, alongside its institutional partners, primarily French and Luxembourgish.
