The results of the study ‘360° Vision of the Jura Mountains: towards a cross-border diagnosis’ available

Since March 2023, the Commission for the planning, development and protection of the Jura mountains (Massif du Jura) and the MOT have been working on a cross-border territorial study of the Franco-Swiss massif.

This approach was prompted by the desire to take greater account of the proximity of the massif to Switzerland, with a view to ensuring consistency between the territorial project supported by the Commissariat (the Schéma Interrégional du Massif du Jura) and its financial implementation (the Contrat de Plan Interrégional Etat-Régions).

After an initial phase of collaborative analyses until the summer of 2023, the MOT organised three thematic workshops in September 2023:

  • On September 19th in Morteau, the first day focused on strengthening the economy of the cross-border massif. After the presentation of an economic diagnosis, the French and Swiss participants were able to discuss the subjects of industry and tourism.
  • On September 20th, at the Stade Nordique des Tuffes, the focus was on preserving the environment, biodiversity and landscapes, with the presentation of an environmental diagnosis and two workshops on water resources and the timber industry.
  • On September 26th in Gex, a day was devoted to the attractiveness and quality of life in the Jura mountains, with three workshops on mobility, land and health.

This second phase of the study, devoted to thematic workshops, culminated in a cross-cutting feedback workshop held on November 15th, 2023 in the Swiss commune of Le Chenit, located in the Vallée de Joux. This meeting provided an opportunity to review the findings of the thematic workshops and to prioritise the fifty or so courses of action that had been suggested.
The MOT then produced 12 priority action sheets for the Commissariat de Massif in the first half of 2024, in order to come up with recommendations and concrete courses of action. For the first time, this work was presented in full to the members of the standing committee of the Comité de Massif du Jura on 16 December 2024.

This ambitious study, which aims to strengthen the many dynamics of exchange and partnership over an unprecedented perimeter, can be consulted freely on the MOT website.
