The Franco-German agreement on cross-border apprenticeships comes into force

The bill approving the Franco-German agreement on cross-border apprenticeships was passed in France on 13 February. Already ratified in Germany in July 2024, this agreement makes it easier for French and German apprentices to complete their practical training in companies on the other side of the border (on the German side in the Länder of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland).

The scheme, which came into force on 1 March 2025, provides a secure legal framework for young people undergoing training. Each year, up to a thousand apprentices could benefit from this opportunity, promoting the acquisition of skills in an international context. The ministries involved welcome this step forward, which marks a key stage in Franco-German cooperation on apprenticeships and paves the way for future agreements with other border countries such as Luxembourg, Belgium and Switzerland. The development of Franco-German apprenticeships is supported by the Franco-German Cross-Border Cooperation Committee (CCT), a body created by the Treaty of Aachen.
