The first Sambre-Avesnois Sud-Hainaut cross-border assembly met in Maubeuge

April 11th 2025 marks an important milestone for Franco-Belgian cooperation: the official creation of the Sambre-Avesnois Sud-Hainaut cross-border assembly. The MOT was present for this inauguration, which followed the signing of a cooperation agreement*.

Since 2021, the MOT has been assisting the Communauté d’Agglomération Maubeuge Val-de-Sambre (Maubeuge Val-de-Sambre conurbation community), the leader of this initiative, in setting up flexible and innovative governance between the arrondissement of Avesnes-sur-Helpe (France) and the arrondissements of Mons, La Louvière, Charleroi and Thuin (Belgium).

This governance now takes the form of a cross-border assembly supported by thematic workshops bringing together elected representatives and technical experts. A workshop, on health, was held on  March 28th in Jeumont, led by the MOT.
