The MOT at the 107th Congress of Mayors: a key moment dedicated to cross-border cooperation

On Thursday, November 20, as part of the 107th Congress of Mayors, a workshop entirely devoted to cross-border issues was held around the question: "How to take your projects further?".

Using transport and mobility as examples, this workshop facilitated the sharing of best practices and lessons learned for building robust cross-border projects. Several key themes were addressed:

  • The principles for a successful cross-border project
  • Obstacles to avoid
  • The importance of a project driven primarily by political will

The speakers:

  • Sébastien Populaire, Mayor of Touillon-et-Loutelet (25), and Florian Lecoultre, Mayor of Nouzonville (08), co-chairs of the working group on cross-border cooperation of the Association of Mayors of France and Presidents of Intermunicipal Authorities, led the discussions.
  • Jean-Baptiste Schiber, Head of International and Partnership Relations for Mobility at the City and Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, a member of the MOT network, shared his expertise.
  • Christian Dupessey, President of MOT, Mayor of Annemasse, First Vice-President of Annemasse Agglo, and President of the French Geneva Metropolitan Area, presented the work carried out by MOT in the cross-border field. He recalled the role of the Cross-Border Deal, highlighted the progress expected thanks to the new European regulation BRIDGEforEU, now in action, and invited participants to join the first National Conference on Border Cooperation, organised by the MOT on December 4 at the AMF premises.
