Six MPs from the Rhine region — Brigitte Klinkert, Patrick Hetzel and Olivier Becht (France), Roland Theis, Yannick Bury and Thomas Gebhart (Germany) — have jointly written to their interior ministers, Bruno Retailleau and Alexander Dobrindt, to call for border controls that are adapted to the realities of everyday cross-border life.

Faced with traffic jams caused by tighter controls, these parliamentarians are calling for measures to be designed without penalising cross-border workers, firstly by establishing closer cooperation: controls carried out jointly by French and German police officers. They also suggested creating a dedicated lane for cross-border workers in order to reduce delays and ease traffic flow.
