How can we work together to achieve energy transition in the Strasbourg-Ortenau Eurodistrict? Discover the MOT study!
This ambition echoes the historically close cooperation within the Strasbourg-Ortenau Eurodistrict, which comprises 112 French and German municipalities.
In its report “Energy planning at the level of the Strasbourg-Ortenau cross-border area,” the MOT takes stock of the main legislative provisions relating to local energy management and proposes levers for action at the Eurodistrict level.
Three major challenges for decarbonizing the region
The MOT’s analysis identifies three common priorities:
- decarbonizing the transport sector,
- decarbonizing heat production,
- and decarbonizing the industrial sector.
Concrete and shared levers for action
There are many levers for action, which stem from the priority themes identified during a cross-border workshop organized by the MOT in May 2025. The participants—planning stakeholders from both countries—highlighted in particular:
- citizen energy,
- and industrial and territorial ecology.
The MOT recommends developing and sustaining these levers, which have already been partially implemented on both sides of the Rhine, through the exchange of best practices and the pooling of knowledge.
