A-MONT: working together to develop a cross-border strategy for the Northern Alps

On 12 June in Albertville, a collaborative working day was held as part of the A-MONT project to define the priorities for the future cross-border strategy between the Department of Savoie (FR), the Piedmont Region (IT) and the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta (IT). Elected representatives from these three territories, accompanied by technical experts, were able to express their views on the key issues and objectives for this cross-border area.

Four main areas

Hosted by MOT, the day began with a presentation of the work carried out with the Alpine Agency for Territories (AGATE) and the Politecnico di Torino (DIST). This analysis phase, based on the study of strategic documents, projects and interviews, identified four key areas:

making the territory more accessible,
increasing its attractiveness,
strengthening the resilience of the territory and its activities in the face of climate change,
and ‘building the territory’ together by strengthening governance and cross-border exchanges.

These key areas were explored in greater depth during an afternoon ‘World Café’, allowing all participants to contribute, through rotating working groups, to the development of common priorities for each of the four themes.

A second workshop, scheduled for the autumn, will complement this work by identifying possible and existing projects. To conclude this important phase of the project, the joint strategy will be accompanied by a cross-border agreement committing the partner territories to a sustainable dynamic of cooperation for the benefit of the Northern Alps.
