At the AFCCRE European University, Sandro Gozi emphasizes the importance of cross-border cooperation for the future of Europe

On October 9 and 10, 2025, the European Metropolis of Lille hosted the eleventh European University of the French Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AFCCRE). On this occasion, more than 200 elected officials and local government employees discussed the central role of local authorities in the European project. The debates focused on three priority themes:

  • A Europe that moves forward through its territories, for its territories;
  • Adaptation, resilience, territorial cohesion: how to innovate in the face of investment barriers? ;
  • A Europe enriched by its cooperation.

A Europe enriched by its cooperation

The six discussion sessions featured more than 25 speakers, including Sandro Gozi, Member of the European Parliament and Vice-President of the MOT, who spoke on October 10 and emphasized how cross-border cooperation was an “opportunity” and a ‘chance’ thanks to the “three stages of the rocket”: “Interreg, to finance projects,” “EGTCs to organize governance,” and the “BRIDGEforEU regulation [for the adoption of which his action was decisive]—to resolve obstacles.”
