"Handbook on Cross-border Energy Communities" from the European Commission
February 2025
Last month the European Commission published its ‘Handbook on Cross-border Energy Communities’. This document provides a broad overview of how to establish and manage cross-border energy initiatives while contributing to the energy transition and European cohesion objectives.
It contains an inventory of cross-border initiatives set up in this field, with the publication of a map*. It also includes examples of good practices that could be extended to other cross-border territories.
The main aim of this handbook is to provide solutions to the obstacles facing these areas, while giving them a place as contributors to the development of the future of energy in the European Union.
