EURegionsWeek – Register for the MOT workshop on cross-border university cooperation!
September 2022In the most integrated cross-border regions, economic and academic interdependencies are increasingly strong. Join us in exploring the challenges and the opportunities related to the implementation of these innovative cooperations between neighbouring universities. The workshop takes place on October 11th. Registration is open until September 30th!
Translation will be available in EN, FR & DE.
Geographical proximity facilitates exchanges between research teams, teachers, students and companies, and cooperation offers students the opportunity to follow modules in partner institutions on the other side of the border.
Furthermore, the mobility of students and researchers and the cooperation between companies, universities and local authorities within a cross-border economic ecosystem have a positive impact on the labour market and on the development of the region as a whole.
Nevertheless, most university alliances - in their current form - seem to overlook the full potential of developing "proximity-based" ecosystems between border regions. By overcoming financial and administrative obstacles, cross-border campuses could become the laboratories of a truly integrated European Higher Education Area, creating innovation clusters and an expanded labour market for young professionals.
Some universities, Euroregions and other cooperation structures are now paving the way by developing cross-border strategies for higher education, research and innovation.
Speakers will include representatives of the University of the Greater Region, the Euroregion New Aquitaine Euskadi Navarre and the Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina (DE-PL).
Title of the workshop: "Building cross-border university alliances as drivers for border regions"
Organised by the MOT on October 11th, from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m., online, in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities of the European Committee of the Regions and DG REGIO.
