Enrico Letta presents his report on the Single European Market
May 2024
Launched three decades ago, the Single European Market is one of the fundamental pillars of European integration. With this in mind, the European Council commissioned Enrico Letta, former head of the Italian government and current president of the Institut Jacques Delors, to draw up an independent high-level report on the future of the Single Market.
The report was presented at the European Council meeting in March 2024. It offers an in-depth analysis of the current challenges and proposes concrete, ambitious recommendations for the future of the Single Market.
Cross-border issues are mentioned:
- The Greater Region is cited as the most successful example of institutional integration (p. 96).
- Teleworking can improve quality of life and create new employment opportunities for cross-border workers (p. 96).
- Removing obstacles inherent in cross-border regions requires a proactive approach from national authorities (p. 97).
The report is available here.
