Second meeting of the French-Italian Border Cooperation committee attended by both Ministers of Foreign Affairs

On February 6th, 2025, the second meeting of the Franco-Italian Border Cooperation Committee set up by the Quirinal Treaty was held in Nice It follows the meeting held in October 2023 in Turin. The MOT was present at this meeting.

The meeting was chaired by the two foreign ministers, Jean Noël Barrot and Antonio Tajani, in the presence of the mayor of Nice and president of the Nice Côte d'Azur metropolitan area, Christian Estrosi, and a number of border elected representatives. It was an opportunity to discuss priority cross-border issues for the region: transport, water, the environment, culture and health.

The reopening of the Tende tunnel, scheduled for June 2025, the Fréjus railway line, the Corsica-Sardinia maritime link and the development of bilingual schools in Menton and Ventimiglia were also discussed. In terms of governance, the ‘Alpes de la mer’ EGTC and the Espace Mont Blanc EGTC currently being prepared - with the support of the MOT - were also mentioned.
