European Commission/OECD: a new cross-border governance tool, the launch of a MOT-ARFE project

Based on the initial findings of the "Building More Resilient Cross-Border Regions" project, which involved five pilot sites (including three on the French borders, more info here), it aims to identify key areas for improvement and provide concrete recommendations to help regions improve their cross-border cooperation.
On this occasion, cross-border cooperation experts and practitioners from all over the EU were invited to participate in order to contribute to the improvement of this tool. MOT director Jean Peyrony was on the panel. In particular, he spoke of the action taken by local stakeholders at higher levels to ensure that cross-border obstacles on their territory are resolved.
Based on the results of these two days of work, the OECD will refine the tool. The final version will be presented in December 2024, and will then be available free of charge on the OECD website.

MOT and AEBR receive grant for calls for projects

As part of the "Resilient borders - CB Planning & Crisis Pilots" pilot project, the MOT and AEBR have for the first time jointly received a grant from the European Commission to launch 2 calls for projects:
The "Resilient borders" project focuses on two central themes of cross-border cooperation:

• Cross-border Spatial Planning (SP) - with ten pilot projects - monitored and managed by the MOT; using the tool prepared by the OECD as a reference (see above).
• Cross-border crisis management (CM) - with ten pilot projects - monitored and managed by AEBR; using the study "Strengthening the Resilience of EU Border Regions" as a reference.

Two calls for projects are about to be launched to select ten pilot sites for each theme.  The aim will then be to draw up an action plan for each pilot site that can be transposed to other sites.
