Franco-Belgian agreement on emergency services
September 2019On 18 July 2019, framework agreement concerning the cross-border intervention of emergency services was signed by the Belgian Minister of the Interior, Pieter De Crem, and his French counterpart, Christophe Castaner.
Belgian and French firefighters, who have been working together on interventions along the border since 1998, have up until now been unable to intervene legally in routine cases. This agreement gives a legal framework to this cooperation on emergency services, notably by resolving an insurance issue. It has been widely welcomed as enhancing the speed with which the emergency services can intervene on the ground.
