Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (Council of Europe) takes
stock of transfrontier co-operation in Europe Seven
years after its latest report on this subject, the Congress adopted on
13 October a resolution and a recommendation reaffirming transfrontier
co-operation as one of its priorities over the next ten years. Taking
stock of the developments in this field over the last decade, the
resolution stresses the flexibility of this form of co-operation which
does not require the creation of additional administrative levels and
which can be organised in different ways, through formal or informal
agreements. In particular, the resolution invites territories to set up
or adhere to cross border co-operation structures in which they can
join forces to benefit from the mutual experiences and best practices
on specific issues, such as provision of healthcare or environmental
protection.
